Soak together for 30 mins and rinse:
1c mung dal
1c basmati rice

While rice and dal are soaking, toast whole spices over medium heat:
1tbs cumin seed
1tbs fennel seed
1tsp kalonji aka nigella seed
3 cloves
Grind

Heat 2tbs ghee, butter, or coconut oil and add:
1/4tsp hing or asafoetida
1/2in piece of ginger, grated
2 garlic cloves, grated
1tsp turmeric
Toasted spice blend
Soaked rice and dal

Cover rice and dal with 1 inch of water and pressure cook on high. 5 minutes under pressure will make it very soft, or 3-4 mins for more bite. Let pressure release naturally, will take 15-20 mins.

Stir, add salt to taste and water to desired consistency.
Serve with lime
